Finally Back to School, it is great! especially I have been desired for long time.
Going into a classroom set-up conference room in the Manchester Shanghai Center, exchanging business card, saying sweet hello, waiting for tutor (Kamel & David) to start the welcome talk,..Strange, Perhaps, it is the 95%+ Chinese ratio that made me feel like I was in the GE Crotonville training session! Couldn't seemed to recall any memory from Australia Uni nor from Marketing Institute of Singapore! Yeah, indeed, the last formal education was happened 6 years back! Times really fly.
The kickoff workshop was Global Event & Leadership (GEL), took place on one weekend and one weekday. According to our senior, GEL is a warm-up subject for student to get themselves familiarize and comfortable with the MBS learning system. Quite true, though the subject itself wasn't tough but tons of concepts and theories to be absorbed. My 35 years old brain cell also started to face some real challenges when we were working late for case study. However, good thing is I'm truly convinced that I did pick the most matching business school after these 2 days workshops experience. So, let embrace the challenges that they may come.
Personally, I like GEL very much as it makes me think, rethink & seriously think about what am I as a leader today?
Key takeaways from GEL
- I'm a typical case of strategic blindness. --- Confused, Self-condemned, doubtfulness when I was in the classroom...the thing is while I complained so much about my job and my sucking boss, perhaps, it's time to do self-reflection exercises
- When you do not have an effective leader in your team, how do you recognize an effective leader --- GOOD question, I'm stuck!
- Jump to conclusion lead to death sentence, same to "do not understand what is your task"! ---- isn't it my weakest link? No doubt!
- Finding the most relevant people
- Almost brainwashed by the GE inclusiveness leadership and I demonstrated so well in my career life that this is the only leadership style that I will practise. But looking at now and then, I guess it's time to pick up something else! A different type of leadership style. At least something real that can really help me grow and go further.
Good luck, Janice.
